ESOP-Owned Penta Engineering Acquired by O'Brien & Gere

Partially ESOP-owned Penta Engineering in Charlotte has been bought by a Syracuse, N.Y., firm that's expanding its reach into the Southeast.

O'Brien & Gere, also known as OBG, plans to keep all 77 employees in Penta's Charlotte and Winston-Salem offices, says Jeffrey Rogers, senior vice president of OBG.

"Penta's extensive experience in chemical process, metals and industrial engineering, together with OBG's established experience in advanced manufacturing, energy, environmental, wastewater engineering and integrated project delivery, will provide our clients a comprehensive set of skills to help grow their respective businesses," Rogers says.

Joe Musgrave, president of Penta, says the deal with OBG will benefit both the company's clients and employees.

"By combining with OBG, we are able to offer our clients an expanded set of services, including engineer-procure-construct, controls integration, startup and commissioning, and create exciting opportunities for our great team," Musgrave says.

The deal includes Penta's headquarters in Charlotte, which is located at 13835 South Lakes Drive, and an office in Winston-Salem.

Founded 70 years ago, OBG is focusing its expansion efforts on work in industrial manufacturing market.
